I don't want that kid to go through our bedroom to get to the bathroom, that's just not ideal for us. We don't want to close off the hallway door because if we have a child, he/she will live in that bedroom. As someone mentioned above, a master bathroom would not have 2 doors in it. We know there's tons of options if we start utilizing the closet spaces but that's not what we are looking to do.due to budget constraints and our lifestyle. We can close off the master bedroom doorway. I am not looking into knocking down any walls into the either bedrooms or eliminating any closets, just configuring in the space we already have. Adding a wider tub (which is our criteria) would require to move the door a couple inches over. Hi Adrianne, The measurement from the back wall of the shower to the door casing is 32". The only way we know if our advice help's or not is when you post back with results. Since it's harmless, you might choose to live with the odor until the heater has to be replaced. If that doesn't help, installing a zinc alloy anode in place of the magnesium rod might help. Caution,if there are elderly, very young or handicapped in home, scalding can occur so be carful. That usually kill's alga and cure's mild cases like yours. I suggest raising temperature of water to 160+F for 3 or 4 days. That will never happen when water is the source. The good news is that the gas is harmless unless it replaces all oxygen to cause sufication. There are additional but rare causes of sulfur gas that we don't need to discuss until last resort. Second most common is corroding anode rod. The most common cause is sulfur in well water. Your's is a mild case, most people get varying amounts from multiple faucets.

When faucet is opened, the gas is released. When gas bubbles reach the vertical tee in pipe,it rises up and stops in your bath faucet. Air and gas bubbles rise in water, right? The tiny bubbles hug top of horizonal pipe as they are pushed along by flowing water. All hot water in your house pass's the offending bath faucet before flowing on to other faucets. Hydrogen sulfide is often produced inside heater tanks and carried out with water flow when any hot faucet is opened.

The aerator isn't the cause, the water heater is. It happens when I turn on either the hot or cold water. It seems that when the water hits the drain, it forces the sewer gas up and into the nostrils. After a few seconds it disappears (when there’s lots of water in the drain, I figure). The smell is coming from the drain-or maybe that pipe that goes up through the roof, and only when you turn on the water.

I thought maybe there wasn’t enough water in the “P” trap to stop the gases from coming out, but the plumber doesn’t think that’s the case. I had my retired plumber neighbour have a look, and he said our drains are clear and the actual plumbing looks exactly as it should. It only happens in this bathroom (not the tub, not other sinks in the house). Since we’ve renovated, it’s much more noticeable, and happens every time I turn on the water. Prior to this renovation, I occasionally would get a sewer smell from the bathroom sink as soon as I turned on the water.

A year ago we had a contractor and plumber install a new bathroom vanity. But I’ll throw my question out there in case anyone has insight. This may be beyond the scope of Houzz, I’m not sure.
